Beijing, China
China Mining Energy Group (CMEG) is proud to announce the successful signing of a strategic agreement with the Government of Namangan Region, Republic of Uzbekistan, to develop a major copper mining and processing project in the Chust district. The signing ceremony was held at CMEG’s headquarters, where Mr. Saddam Raweh, General Manager of Overseas Operations, officially signed the agreement on behalf of CMEG, reaffirming the company’s commitment to international partnerships and sustainable mining development.
This landmark copper project represents a total investment of USD 200 million and will focus on a full-cycle operation that includes geological exploration, ore extraction, and local copper processing to maximize value within Uzbekistan. Geological exploration activities are scheduled to begin in April 2024, with construction and production phases to follow. Once operational, the facility is expected to produce 30,000 tonnes of copper annually, positioning Uzbekistan as an increasingly significant player in the global copper market.
The project will bring substantial economic benefits to the Namangan region by creating more than 420 local jobs and generating 121 billion UZS (approximately USD 9.5 million) in yearly tax revenues. Beyond its economic contribution, CMEG will introduce advanced mining and processing technologies and provide training for the local workforce, supporting long-term skills development and capacity building in the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Saddam Raweh highlighted CMEG’s dedication to aligning with Uzbekistan’s industrial and economic development goals. He emphasized that this project is not only a significant business milestone but also a partnership designed to deliver shared value through technology transfer, infrastructure investment, and sustainable operational practices.
The Namangan copper project is strategically important for both CMEG and Uzbekistan. Copper is a vital component in manufacturing, energy infrastructure, and the global green transition, making this project a critical contributor to Uzbekistan’s industrialization plans and export ambitions. The investment underscores CMEG’s mission to create lasting value by responsibly developing natural resources while ensuring environmental stewardship and socio-economic progress.
This agreement marks a major step forward in CMEG’s global expansion strategy and strengthens Uzbekistan’s position as an attractive destination for foreign direct investment in the mining sector. With Mr. Saddam Raweh’s leadership guiding the implementation of this project, CMEG is confident that the Namangan copper project will become a model for successful international cooperation, generating benefits for both partners for years to come.
