CMEG Advances Mining Exploration in Ethiopia with High-Level Visit to Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

China Mining Energy Group (CMEG) is pleased to announce a successful high-level visit to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to finalize the process of obtaining mining exploration licenses and strengthen our presence in the country. This milestone marks the continuation of CMEG’s strategic engagement with Ethiopia following our earlier meeting with H.E. Tefera Derbew, Ethiopian Ambassador to China, where we laid the groundwork for collaboration in the mineral sector and began the process of opening a branch office in Ethiopia.

Following the establishment of our Ethiopian branch, CMEG formally submitted applications for multiple exploration licenses to participate in Ethiopia’s growing and strategically important mining sector. As part of this initiative, a senior delegation led by Mr. Zhang Zhipeng, Chairman of CMEG, and Mr. Saddam Raweh, General Manager of Overseas Operations and General Manager of CMEG Ethiopia, traveled to Addis Ababa for a series of key meetings with Ethiopian government officials.

During the visit, the CMEG delegation met with H.E. Eng. Habtamu Tegegne, Minister of Mines of Ethiopia, and Mr. Ijara Tesfaye, General Director of the Ethiopian Geological Institute. The discussions focused on CMEG’s exploration plans, the technical and environmental standards we intend to uphold, and the company’s commitment to contributing to Ethiopia’s mining development goals through responsible investment, technology transfer, and local job creation.

Mr. Zhang Zhipeng reaffirmed CMEG’s confidence in Ethiopia’s mining potential and its business environment, noting that the country’s ongoing reforms and support for foreign direct investment create an excellent platform for international partnerships. Mr. Saddam Raweh also highlighted CMEG Ethiopia’s readiness to mobilize technical expertise and operational resources as soon as the exploration licenses are finalized, ensuring a smooth and efficient start to field activities.

This visit represents a significant step toward unlocking Ethiopia’s mineral potential and underscores CMEG’s commitment to building long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with local institutions and stakeholders. Our exploration activities will adhere to the highest international standards of safety, sustainability, and community engagement, reflecting CMEG’s vision of responsible resource development.

CMEG looks forward to the successful completion of the licensing process and the commencement of exploration programs that will contribute to Ethiopia’s economic growth and help position the country as a competitive destination for global mining investment.
