China Mining Energy Group Expresses Strong Interest in Investing in Ethiopia’s Mining Sector

Beijing, China

Ethiopia’s mining sector is gaining significant international attention as China Mining Energy Group (CMEG) has expressed a strong commitment to invest in the country’s mineral resources. This development highlights Ethiopia’s position as one of Africa’s most promising destinations for foreign direct investment (FDI) in mining.

In a recent meeting held in Beijing, H.E. Tefera Derbew, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to China, engaged with Mr. Zhang Zhipeng, Chairman of CMEG, to discuss potential areas of collaboration. Ambassador Tefera highlighted the government’s economic reforms, pro-investment policies, and efforts to create a secure and transparent environment for global investors. He also assured the delegation that the Embassy will actively facilitate the company’s entry and operations in Ethiopia’s mining sector.

Representing the group’s international expansion strategy, Mr. Saddam Raweh, General Manager of Overseas Operations, was part of the high-level China Mining delegation. Mr. Saddam presented CMEG global mining capabilities and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to long-term partnership with Ethiopia. His participation emphasized the group’s focus on aligning its operations with Ethiopia’s mineral development goals and promoting responsible, sustainable mining practices.

During the discussions, Mr. Zhang Zhipeng confirmed that CMEG has already begun the necessary procedures to establish its presence in Ethiopia. This includes investment planning, feasibility studies, and preparations to launch mining operations. The company aims to introduce advanced technologies, create local employment opportunities, and contribute to the growth of Ethiopia’s economy.

This collaboration is expected to boost Ethiopia’s position as a top destination for global mining investment. The entry of an experienced and well-capitalized group like CMEG will accelerate resource development, encourage technology transfer, and enhance Ethiopia’s competitiveness in the global mineral market.

With key figures like Mr. Saddam Raweh actively leading international operations, this initiative represents more than just investment—it is a strategic partnership aimed at unlocking Ethiopia’s mineral wealth and supporting sustainable economic growth.
